Congratulations Father John!
Yes, congratulations are due to our very own John Sweeney - Father John Sweeney now!
Fr John is a native of Garngad, and was born on 22nd August 1975. His parents are John Joseph Sweeney and Theresa Elizabeth (nee McGuire). He becomes the 12th man from Garngad to have entered the Priesthood.
Fr John attended both the Wee Roch (St Roch's Primary, 1980-87) and the Big Roch (St Roch's Secondary 1987-1993).
His studies continued as a Seminarian at Campion House, London (1993-95); Scotus College, Glasgow (1995-97 and 2006-2009); and St Patrick's College, Maynooth (2009-2010).
Fr John was ordained on 3rd July in Glasgow, and celebrated his first Mass here at St Roch's on Sunday, 4th July.
Fr John's first appointment is to Holy Cross, Crosshill. We wish him all the best, and hope to see him back in St Roch's from time to time. Meanwhile, congratulations once again to Father John Sweeney from everyone at St Roch's.
